THERE are just days to go until the Highland Heroes of 2017 are revealed.

An overwhelming response from readers across the north resulted in almost 8000 votes in the first Highland Heroes Awards sponsored by Wipro.

All tickets have now been sold for what promises to be an exciting and emotional awards dinner in Inverness on Thursday.

The awards are being organised by Scottish Provincial Press (SPP) and promoted through five of the group’s newspapers, including The Inverness Courier.

The aim is to give well-earned recognition to those in our communities who are an inspiration to us all.

The 12 categories feature shortlisted nominees of all ages who impressed our judging panel and the voting public with their bravery, determination, commitment and level of community spirit.

Businesses and organisations have shown their support by sponsoring the individual categories, and Wipro was confirmed this week as title sponsor of the awards.

Wipro is a leading global information technology, consulting and business process services company.

Based in India, it has a worldwide workforce of around 170,000.

In September 2016, Wipro won a seven-year computing services contract from Highland Council.

In March this year Wipro opened a new delivery centre in Inverness as part of its growth plan and service delivery for the local authority.

As previously reported, Drew Hendry, the SNP MP for Inverness, Nairn, Badenoch and Strathspey, has lodged an early day motion at the UK Parliament in Westminster praising the Highland Heroes Awards and also offering a message of support to all of the award contenders.

It has been supported by no fewer than 19 MPs.

The winners will be announced at a glittering ceremony in the Kingsmills Hotel. All those who were shortlisted have been invited to attend.

Around 280 guests will enjoy a special evening with fine food and great entertainment.

The awards ceremony will be hosted by broadcaster Nicky Marr and SPP editorial director David Bourn.
