PLANNERS are recommending approval for a scheme to build 298 new homes in the Culloden area, despite dozens of objections.

Officers argue that the Highland Council development at a site close to Barn Church Road would provide new affordable homes and any infrastructure problems caused by the development could be mitigated through planning conditions.

Around 80 objections have been lodged against the scheme, with people concerned that the land is not allocated for development and more homes would have a negative impact on health, education, roads and leisure provision, as well as the character of the landscape.

The land is currently agricultural and sits directly between Balloch and Culloden. If developed, it would join up the two areas.

The application will be considered by Highland Council’s south planning application committee on Tuesday.

If agreed, the development will be subject to a Section 75 agreement which, among other things, will require financial contributions towards the development of a new extension to Balloch Primary School and the development of a new primary school within the Culloden Academy catchment area.
