Albyn Housing Society’s ambitious proposals to build a new generation of advanced assisted-living homes in Nairn have been refused by Highland councillors.

They went against the recommendation of council officers to reject a resubmitted plan for 10 so-called FIT homes – designed to provide greater independence and release hospital beds for people with a variety of medical needs– on land near an existing care home in Cawdor Road.

Last October, councillors rejected the plans after a site visit due to noise and a council spokeswoman said they remained unsatisfied with proposed “acoustic barrier fencing”.
