A LOCAL home improvement surge has meant that business is booming for an Inverness company.

Cairngorm Group’s domestic windows and conservatory sales in March and April saw the highest ever two-month total in the firm’s 68-year history.

Similarly, orders from trade clients have also reached a record peak.

“Business has certainly been booming and it’s encouraging that the domestic side has enjoyed such a surge,” said joint managing director Chris Dowling.

“It’s clear that couples and families in and around Inverness are pushing ahead with investing in home improvement projects in the post-pandemic environment.

“Pent-up planning, delayed by Covid, is now in the front of people’s minds. We’re delighted to be of service and offer expert advice to ‘Mr and Mrs Smith’ to help make their aspirations of a better home become reality.”

He added: “The trend towards working from home has clearly contributed to this surge of activity. People are looking to create a home office or simply more leisure space.”

Cairngorm, which has been manufacturing its own windows in the Highland capital for 34 years, has recorded a 20 per cent leap in March- April domestic sales – beating the previous high for those months, set in 2019.

Scott Dowling, Chris’s brother and also joint managing director, said: “Our domestic sales rose by 66 per cent in the second half of 2020, after flatlining due to lockdown and furlough.

“Last year’s windows market continued in a strong vein – but this current spurt is without precedent. Families have their eyes on an enhanced lifestyle without the hassle of moving home.”

Meanwhile, Cairngorm continues to find strong demand for windows from leading housebuilders such as Springfield Homes and Tulloch Homes, who are enjoying consistently good sales figures.

It is all keeping factory production going flat out at their manufacturing facility, with 10 new jobs added this year to the 100-strong workforce.

A ‘closed loop’ recycling scheme, in which every cut-off, and all the glass, is recycled, means none of Cairngorm’s surplus material goes to landfill.

This is proving particularly attractive to environmentally conscious clients.
