Black Isle stalwarts commemorate Queen's Platinum Jubilee with tree-mendous gifts

A TRIO of community stalwarts behind a popular Black Isle annual fair with deep historical roots has now branched out to mark a momentous occasion with a gift that will keep on giving.

To mark the Queen's Platinum Jubilee, people have been getting involved in a "green canopy" project involving tree planting.

On the Black Isle, three trees with silvery coloured foliage have been planted in the garden at Fortrose Academy. The weeping pear and silver sorbus have been donated by Elizabeth Brown, Wilma Downie and Emma Dalseme, the retired trio behind the annual St Boniface Fair.

Ms Dalseme was involved with the planting of three golden rowans 20 years ago at Fortrose Academy for the Golden Jubilee. Mrs Brown organised a walnut tree to be planted in the grounds of Fortrose Cathedral to mark the Diamond Jubilee 10 years ago.

Last summer, the trio decided they would like to mark this year’s event with tree planting again.

To celebrate the occasion, Joanie Whiteford, the Lord Lieutenant of Ross and Cromarty, officiated at the unveiling of a special plaque to celebrate.
