THE Highlands have recorded their hottest day of the year so far – outstripping holiday hotspots in the Mediterranean, Adriatic and Aegean.

The Highland Weather social media channel has revealed that numerous parts of the Highlands have hit at least 20C – with some even topping out at 21C or 22C.

Warmest spots include Kinlochewe, Rosehall, Scourie and Laxford Bridge, all of which have registered 21C.

But warmest spot of all goes to the area around Altnacaillich on the road between Altnaharra and Loch Hope in Sutherland – which maxed out at 22C.

Temperatures of 20C have also been recorded widely in almost 20 different Highland and Moray locations as the region recorded the UK's hottest temperatures of 2023 so far.

The Highlands have also outstripped hot spots in and around the Mediterranean, with Nice, Barcelona, Athens, Rome and Venice all posting temperatures a degree or two colder than the north-west Highlands today.

The settled spring weather is forecast to continue into this week.
