A Highland training centre is urging employers and those looking for work to get in touch with it.

Triage, based in Bank Street, offers training and employability schemes across Inverness, Strathspey and Badenoch, Nairn and Easter Ross.

With a staffing shortage going on in many sectors, the senior operations manager at Triage, Luke Watson, is offering support to local businesses on how they can recruit talented staff.

He said: "We work with a lot of national employers but we want to work far more with local employers who are facing shortages of staff just now. We are seeing many businesses close several days a week as they haven't got the staff. We want to be able to help with that and all they need to do is get in touch.

"We have many programmes and we offer support for both those looking for work and the employers.

"We want to do things like work experience, and trial shifts rather than the one size fits all interview - some people may be great workers but don't perform well in an interview as they are panicked.

"We want to talk about different ways we can recruit, as employers may be missing out on really talented employees."

Having teamed up with Highland Council to offer a new scheme called Future Focus, Triage will be offering people up to 12 months pre-employment support and then for six months when they enter work.

He added: "There is huge untapped potential in the older generation who maybe moved up here for retirement, but then with the cost-of-living are looking to get some work again. They have incredible skills and we want to look at different ways we can get them into work too.

"Sometimes it's about knowing what support is out there. There are people who have been out of work for a long time and the way employers recruit now is different to what they are used to.

"There is non-person centred method to recruitment, as you send in a CV, or an application form and if you haven't met the keywords it's hard to get in position where you are put in front of someone.

"Being able to see an employer face to face is so important."
