An Inverness based construction company that employed 11 workers is facing liquidation.

Highland Timber Construction of Seafield Road on December 6 petitioned Inverness Sheriff Court for a winding up order.

Sheriff Gary Aitken ordered that the particulars be advertised in the Edinburgh Gazette and Inverness Courier, and called on any person intending to challenge the granting of the order, to lodge a claim against it with the Sheriff Clerk at Inverness within eight days of the adverts appearing.

Sheriff Aitken also appointed Annette Menzies of William Duncan (Business Recovery) Ltd of Glasgow as provisional liquidator and authorised her to exercise the powers contained in the Insolvency At 1986 until either an interim liquidator is appointed or the petition "at the instance of Highland Timber Construction presently pending in court for appointment, is dismissed."

The company was set up in 2016 and carried out construction of buildings, extensions, renovations and kitchen remodelling.

A liquidator is specially appointed to wind up the affairs of a company. Assets of a company are sold by the liquidator and the resulting funds are used to pay off the company's debts.

A spokeswoman William Duncan (Business Recovery) stated: "Highland Timber Construction Limited commenced trading in 2016. Unfortunately, the Covid-19 pandemic had a major impact on the company as it was unable to trade for some time which resulted in a loss of turnover.

"Recently it has not been able to secure a number of new contracts which has also impacted on turnover and has led to an inability to repay its creditors. The director took advice and concluded that he had no other option but to cease trading on November 27, 2023 when all 11 of its employees were made redundant. Annette Menzies was appointed provisional liquidator of the company on December 6, 2023, following a petition to the court by the company."
