THE Met Office has today issued a weather warning for snow in the Highlands next week.

The Yellow warning for snow – the least severe in a colour coded guide that ranges through Amber to the most serious Red — kicks in at midnight on Wednesday, December 7 and runs through the rest of the day.

The warning states: "Snow showers may bring some travel disruption. Some roads and railways likely to be affected with longer journey times by road, bus and train services."

The advanced forecast for Wednesday of next week anticipates the temperature dropping to freezing for much of the day and then dipping down to -2C in the late evening.

The warning was issued to day and comes into force at midnight on Wednesday.

What does a Yellow warning mean?

The Meteorological Office explains: "Severe weather is possible over the next few days and could affect you.

"Yellow means that you should plan ahead thinking about possible travel delays, or the disruption of your day to day activities.

"The Met Office is monitoring the developing weather situation and Yellow means keep an eye on the latest forecast and be aware that the weather may change or worsen, leading to disruption of your plans in the next few days.!
