THE call has gone out for would-be contestants in a hit BBC reality TV show set in a Highland castle and watched by millions.

The first series of The Traitors – a reality competition series built on strategy and suspicion – proved a hit with the British public when it was screened in the run-up to Christmas last year.

A team of players – most 'faithfuls' but in their midst some specially chosen 'traitors' – compete in a series of missions to secure a share of a prize pot of £120,000.

The first series was fronted by Claudia Winkleman – best known to many as a host of Strictly.

The Ardross Castle setting proved to be a hit with participants and viewers alike and has been credited with providing the Highlands with some invaluable publicity on a global stage.

The Traitors, produced for the BBC by Studio Lambert Associates, has now issued a call for would be participants in series 2.

Applicants need to be 18 or over and the closing date is July 31.

Applicants are being told they must be available to take part in the programme for up to six weeks "currently anticipated to be in summer / autumn 2023", although it adds: "Please note that this may change at our discretion without notice."

What's all the fuss about?

The Traitors has now had 34 million views on BBC iPlayer, and is the biggest brand new entertainment launch for the BBC in two years.

The Traitors was the biggest new series for young audiences across all BBC titles last year, and the highest rating new entertainment series on the BBC since at least 2017 for young audiences.

Claudia Winkleman, says: “I can’t wait to go back to the castle to watch people play the greatest game on television. I’m knitting a high funnel sweater immediately.”

Kalpna Patel-Knight, head of entertainment at the BBC, said: “Last year’s ambitious and bingeable hit The Traitors with Claudia Winkleman is coming back with the brilliant team at Studio Lambert set to bring viewers another magnificent series full of drama and suspense. We can certainly expect even more deceit and psychological games for the Traitors and Faithfuls.”

Stephen Lambert, CEO of Studio Lambert, says: “We were delighted so many viewers of BBC One and BBC iPlayer loved the first season. They told us they enjoyed the drama and entertainment of watching our players judge each other, often leaping to false conclusions, but also forming alliances and real friendships. We’re excited to be making a second season with Claudia as together we build on the success of the first.”
