Train commuters across the UK will face major travel disruption this weekend.

TRAIN services in the Highlands and Scotland will be disrupted once again over this weekend as further rail union strike action take place across the UK.

Passengers will face significant disruption as the RMT union members of Network Rail will strike on Saturday, 1 October.

On the day, no Highland train services are expected to be running, with only a handful of central belt routes set to remain in operation

This will create a similar situation to the previous strike of August 18 and 20.

Liam Sumpter, Route Director, Network Rail Scotland, said: “This strike will once again cause significant disruption to passengers, businesses and the wider community in Scotland.

“While we will do all that we can to minimise the impact and to get people where they need to be, passengers should only travel by rail if absolutely necessary.

“Please check your journey in advance as those services that are operating will finish much earlier in the evening.”

Cross-border services will also be significantly affected by the strike action and engineering works in North East England.

Passengers can find more information about their journey by visiting National Rail Enquiries or checking with their individual operator.
