LIFESAVERS in North Kessock are on the lookout for a new volunteer to fill a key onshore role.

The RNLI crew are on the lookout for someone to fill the deputy launching authority post.

The deputy launching authority role sees volunteers authorise launches of the lifeboats, provide leadership in the absence of the lifeboat operations manager, and also works to ensure that all lifeboats are properly maintained and associated equipment is always ready to launch on a rescue.

And the Kessock crew are not the only Highland RNLI team on the lookout for new onshore volunteers.

The Kyle of Lochalsh RNLI station is looking to fill a number of posts – a lifeboat operations manager, a deputy launching authority post, and a lifeboat administration officer.

"Have you watched our lifeboat launch on a shout or exercise and thought you'd love to get involved with the station but don't fancy a sea-going role?" asked a spokesman for the Kyle crew. "Well, we have some very rewarding shore-based volunteer roles available."

The lifeboat operations manager role authorises the launch of lifeboats, provides leadership for the operations team, and also ensures that all duties are carried out to maintain the lifeboats and equipment so they care in a "constant state of readiness for launching" on rescues.

And the lifeboat administration officer position sees volunteers record notes and minutes of various meetings and also act as the primary contact point on general administrative matters of interest to the lifeboat station.

They may also support operations teams through the RNLI's computer systems.
