PUPILS and students in the Highlands joined thousands of young people across the globe in a mass strike to raise awareness of climate change.

More than 25 young protesters including pupils from the Inverness Royal Academy gathered outside Inverness Town House.

Further protests are set to take place there every Friday lunchtime.

About 25 Nairn Academy pupils gathered outside Nairn Town Hall for an hour on Friday before returning to school.

One pupil said: “If we do not take this seriously, we will cause unnecessary suffering to people around the world including ourselves. People around me always tell me to stand up for something that I believe in, so I did that.”
