Highlands and Islands Labour MSP David Stewart is to hold a constituency advice surgery over the phone instead of face-to-face consultations.

Mr Stewart was to have held the surgery at Nairn Community and Arts Centre in King Street on Friday.

But as the government and the NHS gear up to tackle the coronavirus outbreak, he has pulled the lunchtime meeting to comply with social distancing measures.

Mr Stewart, who is Scottish Labour’s shadow health secretary, said it was always good to meet people in person but for now it was practical to hear their concerns over the phone.

Inverness SNP MP Drew Hendry yesterday announced his office will no longer be open for the public to drop in as part of the effort to reduce the spread of coronavirus.

Mr Hendry stressed, however, he is still available for help and support and is urging people to contact his team by telephone or email.

Anyone who would like to discuss an issue or a concern with Mr Stewart can ring 01463 716299 between 1pm and 2pm on Friday, March 2 or email david.stewart.msp@parliament.scot
