A HIGHLAND MSP has pressed the Scottish Government for updates on works for a new school in Nairn.
Plans for a new £42 million secondary school to replace the ageing Nairn Academy were unveiled for the first time in September last year.
Speaking in the Scottish Parliament last week, MSP Emma Roddick asked for updates on the replacement project along with other schools projects in other parts of the Highlands.
The Nairn school is in the “development phase” according to then education secretary Shirley-Anne Somerville, who has since been appointed Cabinet Secretary for Social Justice following Humza Yousaf’s appointment as First Minister.
Afterwards she said: “I was glad to get an update on the Scottish Government’s continued commitment to Nairn’s new-build school, as well as other projects in the Highlands and Islands.
“It is fantastic to see real progress being made on these exciting developments across my region.
“These brilliant new facilities will have such a positive impact on the education of our young people, and I look forward to seeing them come to life.
“The Scottish Government’s investment in education across the Highlands and Islands is a real testament to its commitment to children and young folk the length and breadth of Scotland.”
