A HIGHLAND MSP wants the Scottish Government to be honest with communities across the north about dualling the A9 and A96 after Scotland’s roads budget was cut by £76 million.

Jamie Halcro Johnston questioned why the government was still refusing to admit what he believes everyone else already knows – the dualling will not now be completed by 2025.

Responding to the roads funding, he said: “Despite cutting Scotland’s roads budget by £76 million, John Swinney still claims that the A9 dualling between Inverness and Perth will be completed in 2025 as promised.

“Anyone who uses the road can see that’s nonsense and it’s years off schedule. If it will ever be completed.

“It’s long past the time SNP ministers were honest with communities in the Highlands and admitted this project will not be completed as promised or even at all.”

A fresh deadline is expected in the first half of the year for the A9 while there are mounting fears the A96 may not be done at all amid pressure from the Greens.
