A FUNDRAISING evening for Highland League side Brora Rangers more than achieved a goal of its own.

While organisers of the Brora Ball aimed for a target of £10,000, the evening at the Kingsmills Hotel in Inverness exceeded expectations and raised a record £12,500.

The majority – £8650 – came from the auction where the 144 guests could bid for a long weekend at Scatwell House in Strathconon, a stay in a flat in Tenerife, a Lisbon Lions print signed by the late Billy McNeill and a Rangers shirt signed by manager Steven Gerrard and his squad.

Brora Rangers commercial director and managing director of the Inverness-based Cairngorm Group, David Dowling, said the now annual event, which also included music from recent Belladrum stars Torridon, made a vital contribution to club finances.

“We are trying to compete with clubs from big areas like Fraserburgh and Inverurie, but we are the smallest village in the Highland League out of 17 teams and 60 miles from Inverness, so events like this are essential to help with our running costs,” he said.
