Nairn County has paid tribute to one of its fans who died this week.

Bobby Mcpherson was known to be passionate about football and the Highland League club.

A Nairn County spokesman said: "We were all saddened to hear of the passing of one of our biggest supporters, Bobby Mcpherson.

"Bobby lived just a stone’s throw away from Station Park and made sure he was at every home match he possibly could attend, followed afterwards by a drink or two in the British Legion and Uncle Bobs. He was also a regular on the road attending away fixtures the length and breadth of the Highland League footprint for decades to support the team through both the good times and the bad.

"Bobby was a dedicated supporter who was born into Nairn County – his father Ian served on the club’s committee for many years – and it was an affinity which was to last a lifetime.

"A truly passionate football man, Bobby was always willing to discuss the hot topic of the day from all levels of the game whether it was questioning the latest Scotland squad selection or pondering why Nairn County had not made a substitution earlier in that day’s game. A chinwag at the bar about football over a drink with Bobby was always worthwhile – once he had made his mind up about the performance or abilities of any player, manager or referee he was always happy to relay them and no matter how much anyone might debate to the contrary, he was never likely to deviate much from his own view.

"One thing we could always count on from Bobby was unconditional support and backing the team for 90 minutes at every match he attended, regardless of how well events on the pitch were panning out. A stalwart fan who understood what it meant to support his team, his passing leaves a huge void on The Hill where he stood at home games with his good friends and fellow supporters, who will all miss him dearly.

"The thoughts of everyone at Nairn County are with his wife Ellen, his daughter Nicola and his son Gary at this time."
