A popular miniature railway in Inverness will not open until July at the earliest.

It has been announced the Ness Islands Railway, run in aid of Highland Hospice, along with the charity's café in the Eastgate Shopping Centre for the foreseeable future are closed in keeping with UK government advice.

The miniature railway was due to reopen later this month.

A spokesman for the railway said: "We will review the situation again in June but for the moment the railway will remain closed until at least July.

"Please be assured that Highland Hospice is committed to Ness Islands Railway and we will open later this year or at worst in 2021.

"Meanwhile, if you would like to support the Hospice at these troubled times we currently have a live online auction with lots of fantastic items: https://highland-hospice.aucsys.co.uk"
