A HOLIDAY home business has pledged to donate more than £1000 to charity if a luxury island property is booked for Hogmanay.

Little and Large Holiday Houses (LHH), a self-catering holiday home rental agency, will hand over £1063 to the Highland Hospice if Oran na Mara on Harris is filled for New Year.

Holding up to six people, it is vacant from December 28 to January 4 and is being offered for half of its regular price at £2125 following a cancellation.

Half of the fee will be matched by the agent and will go to the hospice.

LHH owner Wynne Shilland is behind the idea. After the loss of her husband to cancer in 2007, Mrs Shilland started volunteering at the hospice every Wednesday offering massage therapy and LHH has also given stays at holiday homes as prizes for hospice raffles in the past.

Mrs Shilland said: “As it’s a charity, it has to fund itself.”

Paul Honeywell, the owner of the Oran na Mara, was planning on staying in the home with his family for the new year however after a last minute change of plans decided to stay at home.

“I don’t get up there myself enough,” he said.

“It’s a very unique part of the world. What a wonderful way to celebrate the New Year – there’s even a chance of seeing the Northern Lights.

“You can have bracing walks on the beach, and even if it’s wet and wild outside you can sit back in comfort, put the fire on and watch it all happen around you through the windows”.

Apart from the availability over the New Year the property is fully booked until 2020.

Hospice fundraising manager Amanda Burt said: “We are so grateful for this very generous donation.

“The holiday home looks stunning, and it’s great that people can enjoy a lovely break in the New Year while supporting the hospice.”

The property is still available, despite several inquiries.
