Highland driver was addicted to pills, court is told

Concerned motorists contacted the police when a car being driven across the Kessock Bridge in Inverness was swerving about the road.

Officers caught up with Stuart Strang (37), from Elphin, near Lairg, on October 4 2019, and stopped his vehicle.

Inverness Sheriff Court was told that Strang was parked in a lay-by and vomiting when officers approached him.

Strang was unsteady on his feet, his pupils were pinpricks and his speech was slurred, fiscal depute Rowena Carlton told the court.

"He told officers he had consumed two boxes of Nurofen Plus containing 36 tablets each and had an addiction to them," she said.

Defence solicitor Clare O’Hagen said: "He had taken medication for anxiety and depression as well as a lot of Nurofen Plus."

Strang, who admitted driving while unfit through drugs, was fined £480 and banned from driving for 12 months.
