Highland Council says it wants to start monitoring entrances to public toilets to ensure public safety.

Cameras can be fitted to street lights or walls but in line with data protection regulations the council has to carry out a public consultation before it can go ahead with the plan.

"Public safety, reduction of antisocial behaviour and vandalism is of utmost importance," the council said.

"Recording devices provide a factual record of events where such have been recorded and have been shown to resolve these issues and reduce the fear of crime."

Rather than being permanently fixed the cameras would be used on a rolling basis.

The consultation runs to June 24 and people can write to Highland Council, Amenities Services, Unit 4C, Dalfaber Industrial Estate, Aviemore, PH22 1ST or email amenities.services@highland.gov.uk
