Highland Council gets £500 from the Inverness Common Good Fund to help buy a drone for 'effective communications' with the footage to be used online on social media and YouTube
Highland Council has received £500 from the Inverness Common Good Fund to help pay for a drone to support “effective communications”.
The application by the local authority was approved by the fund’s sub-committee which usually deals with smaller-value sums.
The one-off cost amounted to £621 with the footage from the drone to be used online, including social media and the council’s YouTube channel.
Asked why the council needed a drone, a spokesman said: “The drone will help with effective communications and active promotion of Inverness and the wider Highlands, utilising the technology to provide the backdrop of stunning aerial images and video of the city and local area on the web and social media and complementing our video activity on our YouTube channel.
“Today’s drone technology offers videographers high quality and sophisticated platforms to capture aerial footage and create videos.
“This will enable us to provide the media with engaging content as media has largely moved to online digital format.
“The drone will also be useful in capturing aerial views of various major projects, such as the West Link. Staff in the communications team have been trained in using the drone which was purchased in the summer.
“It is a cost effective way of providing incredible footage in-house, with a one off cost of £621.
“We have already captured footage of the Inverness Park Run, West Link and by-election coverage utilising the drone, as well as capturing footage for future use across the city and Highlands, which will be released on our social media channels and website as appropriate over the coming months.
“We will also be capturing unique footage above the Town House to provide angles and views of the building and architecture not seen before.”
