Highland Council has announced that the head teacher of Fortrose Academy Jacquie Ross has been replaced. It is the latest major change to head teaching staff in north in the last four months.

The move was announced yesterday in a letter to pupils, parents and guardians revealing that Wim Chalmet has been installed as the interim head teacher.

There was no word on the exact reasons behind the change beyond saying she is "currently absent from work." The school has experienced a number of difficulties in recent months including a bomb scare.

The letter from the interim area and education manager Annika Jansson stated: “I am writing to inform you that on an interim basis, Wim Chalmet will be taking the role of acting head teacher in Fortrose Academy as Mrs Jacquie Ross is currently absent from work.

“Mr Chalmet will be in the school from today, Wednesday March 20th, to meet all members of the school community. Please contact the school in the normal way if you have any concerns or queries.”

Mr Chalmet was on secondment from the local authority – previously he was the head teacher of Gairloch High School and he was due to return there this year.

He had previously been deputy head teacher at Golspie High and is known for an epic 4200km (more than 2600 miles) self-supported cycle from Turin in Italy to the North Cape in Norway to support The Den Youth Café in Gairloch.

Highland Council has been asked for comment.
