A 30-year-old chef who has to travel five miles to get to his work faces an uncertain future after he was banned from driving for a year at Inverness Sheriff Court.

Owen Leinster, of Mackinnon Drive, Croy appeared before Sheriff Sara Matheson and admitted driving with an unsafe amount of a cannabis metabolyte in his system on February 16, 2022.

His reading was 3.5mcgs when the limit is 2mcgs.

Defence agent Marc Dickson told the court: "One or two days beforehand, he was at a social gathering and accepted a small amount of cannabis. It is not something he normally does and he is aghast that it was still in his bloodstream on the day he was stopped.

"He lives in a rural area with poor public transport and losing his licence will have a devastating effect on him."

Leinster was also fined £335.
