Highland businesses are backing the return of an all-day charity fundraiser celebrating a key date on the equestrian calendar – despite tough economic times.

Royal Ascot Ladies Day will be celebrated on June 22 at the Kingsmills Hotel in Inverness to raise funds for Highland charity Mikeysline which provides mental health and suicide prevention support.

Scottish musical sensation Callum Beattie, whose latest album Vandals topped the official Scottish Album Chart in March, will entertain guests who will also speculate on the race card and enjoy a drinks reception, lunch and an afternoon tea.

It marks the return of the well-established event following an enforced break during the years of the coronavirus pandemic and comes amid the economic crisis.

In the past, it has raised tens of thousands of pounds for charities such as Marie Curie and Birchwood Highland and despite the economic squeeze, the organisers are delighted with the support from local businesses.

Mikeysline trustee Jackie Cuddy said the charity's work is more vital than ever post-pandemic.

"When Kingsmills approached Mikeysline and asked if they would work with hotel to bring the event back post- covid, obviously in the current economic climate the charity was a little nervous," she said.

"Also, Mikeysline is to be the sole beneficiary whereas in previous years more than one charity has been involved.

"That said, it was too good an opportunity not to take it up and raise funds for this worthwhile charity. With suicide rates and mental health issues at a high post-covid, particularly in the Highlands, the work Mikeysline does is vital to the local community."

She said Mikeysline has been amazed at the support for the event from local businesses including Caley Timber, Stagecoach, Compass and Ness Lodges which means all the costs are covered.

Other local companies have also donated auction and silent auction prizes.

"The response from companies at this tough economical time shows the importance of the work of Mikeysline in the Highlands," Ms Cuddy said.

Tony Story, managing director of the Kingsmills Hotel said it was an honour to host the fundraising event again.

"It was a wee while ago, after a tragedy close to us, that we approached Mikeysline to see if we could help raise funds to support this sadly much-needed charity, and we were pleased that offer of help was accepted," he said.

"We have worked closely with the charity ever since.

"Despite the pressing economic circumstances, we are delighted to receive so much support from our friends, friends of Mikeysline, clients and suppliers for this day – such a special one in the Highland calendar and certainly not one to be missed."

Tables have sold well with just a few remaining. Anybody wanting further information should email enquiries@mikeysline.co.uk.
