HIGHLAND food banks will reap the rewards of a local business dinner with a charity cash boost of more than £7000.

The money raised from the Highland Business Dinner’s prize draw has been gifted to Blythswood Care.

Organisers at the charity’s Evanton depot revealed the money will go towards the running of food banks.

A spokesman for the charity said: “We are very grateful to have been selected as this year’s beneficiary charity for the annual Highland Business Dinner. Over 5500 local people were fed through the food banks last year when they found themselves in times of crisis.”

Last year, Blythswood Care was involved in processing more than 50 tonnes of food for the food banks, however the food banks still require funds to cover the cost of transporting food, storage, sorting and staff.

Inverness Chamber of Commerce organised the dinner and the chamber’s Stewart Nicol and Paula Nicol handed over a cheque.
