A total of 49 buildings in the Highlands will be open to the public during September
As part of the 30th anniversary of Doors Open Days in Scotland, the Inverness City Heritage Trust is co-ordinating the openings across the region over the five weekends of September.
The Allanfearn Wastewater Treatment Works just north of Culloden on the A96 opens its doors this weekend.
The region’s largest wastewater treatment site will allow people to see how wastewater is received and processed and how green energy is produced from organic material in the water.
Visits will also demonstrate how remaining organic matter is cleaned and made suitable for use in agriculture and land reclamation.
Three tours of the site have been organised on both Saturday and Sunday for a maximum of 12 people on each tour.
Other facilities taking part across the month include Inverness Cathedral, Highland Archive and Registration Centre, the Northern Meeting Park and the 400-year-old Cawdor Church.
There will also be a last chance to visit Inverness Sheriff Court at its current base in Inverness Castle before it moves to its new home in the city’s Longman Road.
For more details on all participating properties and how to book tours see www.doorsopendays.org.uk.
Although all events are free, some must be booked in advance and are subject to availability.
