The Highlands and Islands are braced against high winds expected to last until tomorrow morning.

According to the Met Office, which has issued a yellow weather warning for the region to run from this evening, strong winds are forecast which will affect mostly western Scotland – with 65mph gusts likely reaching 70 to 80mph across the Western Isles.

Conditions are expected to last between 9pm and 7am tomorrow.

Traffic Scotland has, however, also reported there are already lane restrictions in both directions on the A9 Kessock Bridge due to the weather and road users are being urged to use caution when crossing the A9 Dornoch Bridge due to the high winds.
