A spokesperson for Highland and Islands Enterprise has expressed sadness at the death of one of the beloved swans at Inverness campus.

The death of the bird was reported earlier this week.

The Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA) was informed of the incident.

It is not yet known if it could be linked to an outbreak of bird flu currently affecting areas of the UK.

A spokesperson for Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE), which is the Inverness Campus developer, said: “We were very sad to hear that one of our resident swans on the campus had died.

"We spoke to DEFRA on Tuesday after being alerted by members of the public about the dead swan in the Lochan.”
