SUPERGIRL, the Flash and even one of the Power Rangers have joined forces to back this year's Highland Heroes event.

The trio of superheroes were drumming up support for the region's own local heroes at Inverness Airport – the event's main sponsor – ahead of next Saturday's deadline for votes.

Dozens of people have been nominated across 14 categories at the annual event. You can still vote for who you want to win the awards, which include brave child of the year, volunteer of the year, emergency services or armed forces hero of the year.

Winners will be announced at the Kingsmills Hotel in Inverness on November 7. The event is organised by SPP Media Group, publisher of the Courier.
