An Inverness care home is asking for help to bring its residents some festive cheer.

Kingsmills Care Home has issued a call to the community for decorations to light up its outdoor Christmas trees as Covid restrictions mean they cannot put up decorations indoors this year.

The home’s Judith Reid said: “Pre-Covid, we had Christmas decorations and trees throughout our home, however the times are strange and certainly different from other years.

“Our priority is to ensure all of our tenants, staff and families are kept safe whilst following all guidelines, but we also want to celebrate Christmas, so we are asking for help from the community.”

Under normal circumstances the care home would be decorated throughout, but current infection control guidance from the Care Inspectorate states that indoor baubles, streamers and the like are not advised.

The home will gratefully receive any donations of festive lights or other outdoor decorations.

Activities co-ordinator Aimee Cumming said: “It has been a very unusual year and we would just like to make things sparkle for our residents this Christmas.

“We have been trying to think about how to decorate the area and keep with the current Covid guidelines, and this is the idea that we have come up with, but we need the support of the community.

“Anyone who has any decorations that they can give to us, that can be used outdoors using either batteries or mains power, then it would be wonderful to have them.

“Giving the residents something bright and shiny outside to look at will mean so much to them. It will out a smile on everyone’s face.”

Anyone who would like to donate items should contact Kingsmills Care Home on 01463 240555.
