The head teacher of Inverness High School has resigned, with parents and carers informed this week.

John Rutter has told Highland Council that he intends to step down from his position as head teacher at Inverness High School with effect from October 23.

Parents and carers of students who attend the school were made aware of his resignation when the council's head of education and learning Nicky Grant wrote to them.

She said: "On the behalf of the local authority and school community we would like to thank him for the long service he has given as head teacher.

"We will now begin the process of recruiting a new head teacher."

She continued: "In the meantime, arrangements will be made to appoint an interim head teacher and details will be communicated as soon as they are finalised."

The Inverness Courier approached Inverness High School for a comment from Mr Rutter, however he is currently unavailable.

Mr Rutter's reason for going is unclear.
