It is 10 years since the Elsie Normington Foundation (ENF) was set up to create the Haven Centre for children and young people with complex and severe disabilities, and the big birthday was celebrated with a thanksgiving concert in Eden Court Theatre, Inverness.

Host the Rev David Meredith quoted aptly: “Faith laughs at the impossible and says it shall be done.”

ENF patron Elizabeth Mackintosh welcomed all, and Elsie Normington herself told the packed theatre of the 10 year journey and thanked the Board of Trustees who worked tirelessly to make the Haven Centre possible.

Elsie added later: "I have staged many similar events over the past 32 years and I must say this was the pinnacle. Folk just loved the variety of the entertainment, and the slides and video of the Haven Centre being built.

"The theatre was packed and a collection on the night raised a really generous £4000.

"And most important, the Haven Centre has happened and will open in the next three or four weeks."

Community fundraiser Rona Matheson thanked all who raised vital funds and volunteered for Haven, and said the ENF mission would continue its work to provide inclusive community spaces in Highland to support the young people and their families.

Rona said: “It was a wonderful evening of praise and thanksgiving and we raised £11,000.”
