Sentence was deferred on a Hamilton man after he admitted an Inverness city centre assault which occurred in the early hours of November 9 last year.

Jamie Gorman, of Burnhouse Crescent, pleaded guilty at Inverness Sheriff Court to the attack on another man with whom he had exchanged words earlier that evening.

Sheriff Sara Matheson was told that he put his arm round his victim, told him he was going to hit him and then punched him twice on the face.

Fiscal depute Shamyla Ghafar said the complainer sustained a burst lip.

Sheriff Matheson called for a background report after reading the 33-year-old's record of previous convictions. Gorman will return on March 14 to learn his fate.
