A woman who drove into a Beauly store car park then seemed to fall asleep in the driving seat had been drinking heavily following the recent death of her partner.

Inverness Sheriff Court heard that another motorist went to check on 56-year-old Marina Khotina, of Raven Croft, Culbokie and could smell alcohol from her.

Her keys were removed from the ignition and police called, fiscal depute Adele Gray told Sheriff Gary Aitken.

The incident happened at 2pm on February 25, 2023. She admitted drink-driving with a reading of 126mcgs of alcohol when the legal limit is 22mcgs.

Sheriff Aitken said: "This is a very high reading."

He ordered her to carry out 120 hours of unpaid community work and banned her from driving for 18 months.

However he authorised her as suitable for a drink-driver rehabilitation course which will earn her a four-month discount if successfully completed.
