Nominations open for 2019 Scottish Green Energy Awards

Renewable energy companies are being urged to enter a national awards celebrating the achievements of the industry and its role in the future.
The Scottish Green Energy Awards – the UK’s largest celebration of renewables – is open to nominations across 11 categories, with a 12th category for young and inspiring professionals already shortlisted.
The awards, now in its 17th year, is open to all renewable energy technologies, from wind, hydro and solar to wave, low-carbon heat and more.
Categories this year include outstanding project, best community project and best innovation. The awards ceremony, which take place on December 5 in Edinburgh, will be hosted by comedian Jo Caulfield.
Claire Mack, chief executive of Scottish Renewables, said: “Scotland’s renewable energy industry is at the forefront of the global shift to a low-carbon energy system.
“With almost three-quarters of the electricity consumed in Scotland now coming from renewable sources, the Scottish Green Energy Awards allow us to come together and celebrate the innovation, determination and commitment of those who are making this industry happen.
“The awards showcase the very best in the industry, generate real passion for renewables and inspire those within the sector to continue their ground-breaking efforts towards both achieving a low-carbon future and meeting some of the world’s toughest climate-change targets.”
The event, headline-sponsored by EDF Renewables, will take place at the Edinburgh International Conference Centre.
The categories for the 2019 Scottish Green Energy Awards are:

- Outstanding project award (sponsored by innogy Renewables UK Ltd)
- Outstanding service award (sponsored by Aberdeen Renewable Energy Group)
- Sustainable development award (sponsored by ABB)
- Young and inspiring award (sponsored by WSP)
The shortlist for the young and inspiring award consists of the nine winners of May’s 2019 Young Professionals Green Energy Awards.
They include a PhD student whose work on monitoring offshore wind construction noise is already being implemented by Scotland’s £511-million-a-year industry; a project resource analysist who is working to optimise the largest tidal power station in the world and a naval architect who helped design the world’s first hydrogen fuel cell ferry powered entirely by fuel from renewable sources.
