More than £34,000 has been raised by teams taking part in RSABI’s Great Glen Challenge 2022.

A total of 17 teams battled it out in the multi-sport event on Friday, August 26, which saw competitors take part in stages between Fort Augustus and Fort William, completing 46km mountain biking, 18km walking, 17km running and 6km kayaking.

Newcomers Team Shannoch took home the trophy on the day, but it is Agrovista’s Team #ForOurGrowers who have come top of the fundraising leader board having raised a fantastic sum of £5730 including gift aid.

Neil Fettes, Agrovista Team captain, said: “On behalf of Agrovista’s team #ForOurGrowers, we had a really super day at the challenge. Our team put in a great effort. Although we didn’t make the top three it was a very enjoyable event that we were proud to be part of.

“A particular highlight was seeing the youngest member of the team, William Fettes, come in second place in the run which was his first-ever running race. A huge thanks to all of our sponsors, we are amazed at their level of generosity, having achieved a total of £5730.”

Carol McLaren, RSABI chief executive, said: “We’re very grateful to all our teams for their amazing fundraising efforts which has helped us to raise over £34,000 to support people in Scottish agriculture. Many thanks go to all who took part and everyone who sponsored our teams – your generosity is very much appreciated by all at RSABI.

“Huge thanks go to our supporters and partners Agrovista who went the extra mile with their fundraising, raising over £5700. Congratulations also go to William Fettes on his second place in the running – what a great performance for his first-ever running race.

“Funds raised by the Great Glen Challenge will help RSABI provide vital emotional, practical and financial support to people involved in the Scottish agricultural industry. These are challenging times, and many are worried about rising costs.

"I’d encourage anyone who is finding things difficult to get in touch with our friendly, professional team to see how we can support you. All support is confidential and our Freephone Helpline – 0808 1234 555 – and webchat service are available 24 hours a day, every day of the year.”

As well as taking part in the Great Glen Challenge, the marketing team at Agrovista are also clocking up their kilometres as part of RSABI’s #Challenge125 initiative, sponsored by United Auctions.

RSABI are encouraging everyone in the agricultural industry to get involved in #Challenge125, with the aim to reach 125,000km collectively as an industry by December 2, when RSABI will be holding a special fundraising dinner as part of their 125th anniversary celebrations.

To take part in #Challenge125 and contribute your kilometres to the total go to the RSABI website.

RSABI’s Great Glen Challenge 2022 is sponsored by United Auctions, and is also supported by event partners Bank of Scotland, Royal Bank of Scotland and Retties with The Scottish Farmer as media partner.
