A MOTORIST who repeatedly flouted driving bans has been jailed.

Kenneth Scott admitted driving while disqualified and without insurance on the B851 at Croachy on 12th May. It was the third time he had driven while banned.

Solicitor John McColl told Inverness Sheriff Court that the 53-year-old was unemployed, received disability living allowance and was the carer of the woman he lives with.

He added that Scott’s last offence for driving while disqualified was in 2009.

"While it is obviously a serious matter to repeat the offence, there is a gap and he has committed a small number of offences in the last three or four years."

Sheriff David Sutherland noted that Scott had been banned on 18th March for two years. Jailing him for five months the sheriff said: "Given your history and you were only disqualified a couple of months before, custody is the only appropriate sentence."

Scott, of Lochmore Cottages, Gorthleck, was also banned from driving for five years and ordered to sit an extended test before he getting his licence back.
