Police on mobile patrol in the Culloden area of Inverness decided to stop a passing motorist for a routine check.

But when officers approached the driver of the VW Golf, Inverness Sheriff Court heard that 34 year old Kyle Nicolson's eyes were glazed, he appeared lethargic and had delayed speech.

Fiscal depute Grant McLennan told Sheriff Ian Cruickshank that Nicholson of Barn View, Culloden initially refused to give a saliva sample to test for drugs and said: "Just arrest me." So the officers carried out a drug search of the car.

"They found a pipe and a set of grinders. A test on the grinders found an unweighable amount of cannabis."

Nicolson admitted driving on Caulfield Road, Inverness on December 18, 2022 with 7mcgs of a cannabis metabolite in his system when the safe limit is 2mcgs. He also admitted possessing a tiny amount of cannabis.

He was fined a total of £540 and banned from driving for a year.
