A TEENAGER who struck a door steward with a glass at a city centre pub has been ordered to pay her victim £200 compensation.

Rebecca Stewart (19) of Maple View, Beauly, admitted a charge of behaving in a culpable and reckless manner at the Caledonian Bar in High Street, Inverness, on June 23 by throwing the glass which struck the steward, causing a slight cut above one of his eyes.

Depute fiscal Niall Macdonald told Inverness Sheriff Court that the incident had occurred at about 2am when staff believed Stewart was trying to purchase alcohol for someone who had already been refused drink by bar staff.

“The employee began arranging for her to leave the premises,” Mr Macdonald said.

“When informed, the accused, who had a glass, threw the glass and it ended up striking the steward Liam Ferguson.”

Mr Macdonald said the slight cut above his right eye suffered by Mr Ferguson did not require medical attention.

Solicitor John MacColl said he took no exception to the description of events as set out by the fiscal.

He said Stewart, a student, had been to other places before spending a couple of hours in the Caledonian Bar that evening.

Mr MacColl said Stewart hoped to become a paramedic and he asked the sheriff to defer sentence for a period to enable her to show she could be of good behaviour.

Sheriff David Sutherland instead imposed a compensation order for the victim.
