Café 1’s proprietor Norman MacDonald said the Castle Street restaurant was keen to reopen this week and once again be part of people’s celebrations.

Mr MacDonald said they were mindful of people who were concerned and had carried out a full health and safety review.

Safety measures introduced at the premises include social distancing; staff PPE; hand sanitisers; plastic screens in the payment area; and reduced seating – down from 85 to 52.

Mr MacDonald said: “That is a significant reduction but it will still generate a nice atmosphere. The measures are in place and we have also upgraded our ventilation system.”

He said Café 1 aimed to offer a “unique dining experience” using locally sourced ingredients – including produce from its own croft – to make appealing contemporary dishes.
