A swathe of new energy infrastructure projects are set to directly impact properties in the Highlands.
As SSE prepares for public consultations, following the release of preferred corridor options for a new overhead line from Beauly to Peterhead, Bidwells property consultants is urging landowners and other potentially affected property owners to seek advice early.
Clive Meikle, head of grid and infrastructure with Bidwells, said: “We know from experience that when property owners are approached by developers looking to secure access rights, it is rarely in the best interests of the property owner to accept what the developer is initially proposing. There are many clauses and agreements which require an expert eye to negotiate and advise on the best course of action, ensuring the landowner is getting the best deal in terms of access rights, reinstatement and financial compensation.”
The first of the consultations takes place today from 2-7pm at the Kingsmills Hotel in Inverness, with another in Beauly’s Kilmorack Hall on October 5.
Mr Meikle said: “It is always advised to glean as much information as possible about any infrastructure project, so you are well informed. Together with sound professional advice and the services of an experienced negotiator, this will stand any landowner in good stead when it comes to brokering a deal.”
Other projects planned include: Beauly Cluster – new substations and upgrades; Red John Pump Storage – new point of connections, switching station and underground cabling; Beauly Reinforcement Project – new substation.
Mr Meikle said: “Successful land negotiations are key for all these projects to come to fruition and landowners’ early engagement in the process is always beneficial.”
