Sir Ian McKellen – who starred as Gandalf in Lord of the Rings – has got the magic touch in Inverness!

LORD of the Rings star Sir Ian McKellen came up with a wizard idea when he visited Inverness this week.

The acting legend, who plays sorcerer Gandalf in the Tolkein films, is starring in a one-man show to celebrate his 80th birthday and appeared at Eden Court on Monday night.

But instead of taking full payment for the gig, he accepted only a “very modest fee” in return for a commitment from the venue to spend the £30,000 it generated on getting more young people from across the region to enjoy the theatre.
