A vision to save the Old High Church in Inverness has been set out by campaigners.

The A-listed building was closed by the Church of Scotland earlier this year after it was deemed no longer financially viable to keep it open.

The building – which has important links with the Battle of Culloden, Highland regiments and the globally popular historic drama series Outlander – is being advertised for offers over £150,000.

Campaign group Friends of The Old High Church now hope to launch a rescue plan to turn the historic building into a not-for-profit venue.

The proposals include having it as a mixed use venue for the benefit of the community including daily tours highlighting the significance of the city centre building as well as being available for private hire for the likes of weddings and evening choir sessions.

The group said that the interior would be left largely untouched but that some minor alterations such as the addition of toilets would need to be made.

The next stage of the plan is to put together a steering group - of which the Friends of The Old High Church would be part of.

According to a post on social media the project will need to prove to be affordable and sustainable for plans to be progressed.

A number of steps have been laid out in the group's proposals in order to progress plans - all of which can be viewed online.
