Further delay to plans for new Inverness prison

The Scottish Government's decision to postpone the £80.5 million correctional facility has sparked fury in the Highland capital.

It is the second time in a few months that the plan has been put back – this time to 2023 – and the cost of the project has soared from the original £66 million price.

Highlands and Islands MSP Edward Mountain said: It is well known that plans for a new prison in Inverness have been in the pipeline for many years, but this SNP government is guilty of underfunding essential infrastructure in the Highlands."
