A Vegas-style charity dinner and dance will celebrate the life of a much-loved wife and mum lost earlier this year after a battle with diabetes.

Amy Tuach (39), from Muir of Ord – adored by friends and family for her kindness and sense of fun – lost her life in February after a lengthy period of illness.

She was passionate about fundraising for causes close to her heart and, before being taken into hospital in July 2021, raised many thousands of pounds through different events for charities including Highland Hospice.

Poignant memories of a post-fundraising event holiday in Las Vegas with husband Gary, as well as an unfulfilled 40th birthday wish, were behind the choice of theme for Celebrating Amy Vegas Style at the Drumossie Hotel on Saturday, October 29.

Mr Tuach (42), who is continuing fundraising efforts in his late wife’s memory along with daughter Chloe (16) and some of Amy’s closest friends, explained: “Amy did a walking challenge in the Grand Canyon, raising thousands of pounds for the Highland Hospice and then the following year she went to do the Rockies.

“She did all the training, but three days before she was meant to leave she collapsed and ended up in hospital.

“She never ever got to do the Rockies, but raised all the money for it and, after she died, her mates wanted to carry it on with more events because that’s the kind of thing Amy loved to do.

“After she did the Canyon, I went out to meet her after the event and we spent six days in Vegas together.

“I remember her saying she would always want to come back to Vegas for her 40th birthday and we had it all planned, with all her friends set to go as well.”

Described by friends as “a force of nature” with an infectious warmth and kind heart, Any would have relished the event planned.

Mr Tuach said: “This is the first event in her memory and it is very apt, given the theme and the fact Amy in her short life was so passionate about both fundraising and people having a good time.

“She always put together a great event and would have loved an evening like this.”

The couple would have been 15 years married on October 12 this year, while Amy’s 40th birthday would have fallen on November 11.

The event next month falls neatly between the two dates, with 25 tables sold already and another six or seven available.

It promises to be an enjoyable evening of good food and dancing, hosted by STV’s Nicola McAlley, with music by Rhythmnreel and an auction by Kenny Smith, as well as surprise guests.

Mr Tuach, a building firm’s contracts manager, also runs Muir Sounds Discos and serves as a Muir of Ord Trust director.

He added: “We have had some terrific sponsorship support, but would be delighted if anyone else would like to contribute, whether or not they can come along on the night.

All funds raised will go to Highland Hospice and Mikeysline.
