Two staff members from an Inverness opticians kept their eyes on the prize and raised more than £1000 for charity in 2021 by completing the Loch Ness Beast Race.

Specsavers’ assistant manager David Grant and optical assistant James Jack completed the fundraiser for Chest, Heart and Stroke Scotland and hit their target with the help of generous customers.

Now Highland MSP Edward Mountain has ensured the magnificent effort is to be recognised in the Scottish Parliament after submitting a motion praising their achievement, backed by 20 MSPs.

The Loch Ness Beast Race saw the duo overcome obstacles including the Ankle Biter, Squirrel Scramble and the brand new Launch Pad.

They completed the race with pink hair after customers at the store were invited to make a donation to the cause and suggest a colour of dye for the event.

Mr Grant said: “Raising more than £1,000 for such a fantastic charity was a great achievement in itself but we are over the moon to have been recognised by Edward Mountain MSP.

“It was a very unexpected but lovely surprise to be sent a letter from him informing us of the motion and how many MSPs had supported it.

“We are both very proud and would like to thank everyone who helped us raise the money.”

Mr Mountain said: “I commend the fundraising efforts of the Inverness store of Specsavers.

"The donations they have collected will make a massive difference to those who receive support from Chest, Heart and Stroke.”
