A fundraising concert aims to make Nairn's beach more easily accessible for everyone.

Hosted at The Bandstand, the event on Friday is being held in aid of the Nairn Beach Wheelchairs Project, with live performances from Dr Wook (the stage name of event organiser Kris Douglas) and The Tuesday Accord and a DJ set by Vinyl Revival featuring Nigel Graham, Helen Boor and Duncan McSporran.

A crowdfunder launched earlier this year aims to fund two specialist beach accessible wheelchairs with big inflatable tires that will make it easier for wheelchair users to access the beach safely and easily.

Mr Douglas, who has been involved in fundraising for several years for his son Sam (8), who suffers from a neurological condition, said they had used the same style of beach wheelchair in Dornoch and now hopes to bring the service closer to home.

He said: "It would be wonderful if Sam and anyone that like him is on a wheelchair could access our beautiful beach."

"To be able to access the beach at 20 minutes from home would be amazing.

"We've had such a great response from the local community. It's great to see the support for such a valuable service.

"We are very happy that the Bandstand will host us. They are already hosting a lot of live music events so it's a perfect location."

A raffle will also be held on he night and while entry is free audience members are encouraged to make a donation.

The crowdfunder was also backed last month by popular crime writer Ian Rankin.

Mr Douglas said the night will offer a mix of acoustic folk music and an eclectic range of genres when the DJ set comes on.

Amelia Williamson, chairwoman of Nairn Beach Wheelchairs, said: "We can't wait to enjoy the music at the event and are so grateful to all the musicians and The Bandstand for hosting it.

"It's going to be a great night and also a celebration of our community coming together to support the project.

"We are progressing well with plans and it's in large part thanks to how many people are getting behind the plans, right across the Highlands and Moray."

The night will kick off at 7.30pm. Anyone wishing to donate can do so via the initiative's Just Giving page.
