Fundraiser launched to support Highland parents of newborn baby who is in a critical condition

A fundraiser has been launched to support the parents of a newborn baby who is in a critical condition.
Kyro Macphee - who is just seven days old - has been airlifted to Dundee Hospital and is currently fighting for his life, with a severe infection. His parents from Alness, Declan Macphee and Lakeisha Lapsely are currently staying at the hospital with him.
Declan’s sister in law, Hannah Macphee said: “He was born perfectly healthy, until a few days later when he started to refuse a bottle and was then placed on a feeding tube and incubated in the Special Care Baby Unit in Raigmore, Inverness and then placed on a ventilator as he is no longer able to breathe on his own.
“From then on, he has continued to decline and as of Tuesday 26 he was taken by plane by the Scottish Air Ambulance, whilst Declan and Lakeisha were driven down by car to be with him in Dundee Hospital.
Declan’s sister, Emma Kennedy added: “We have now been told that he has a severe infection and is in critical condition with a chance he may not make it.
“X-rays show he has immature lungs, and is suffering multiple long seizures throughout the whole day for the last couple of days. The infection is already spreading through his body and as he is not yet a week old, he’s trying his hardest to fight it off and is on a ventilator.
“They are quite hopeful but the prognosis doesn't look good. We are just waiting to see what happens over the next few days.
“I have set up the fundraising page, to help with costs whilst down in Dundee, so that they don’t have to struggle.”
This is the second tragedy to happen to the family in the last 10 months, as Hannah lost her own daughter Mia aged one, last year.
Emma added: “This family has already been to hell and back and the last thing they need is to stress and worry as they already have enough to deal with. Anything that anyone could donate will really go a long way to helping them.”
